I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book。 I've been a huge fan of Daniel Silva's and look forward to July every year, knowing that another one of his books will come out, and I'll be thoroughly entertained。One of my favorite moments when reading Daniel Silva's books is reading his author's notes at the end。 Not only does it give us some background from his research for the book, but also his mindset while writing it。 The Cellist brings back our hero, Gabriel Allon, who now is I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book。 I've been a huge fan of Daniel Silva's and look forward to July every year, knowing that another one of his books will come out, and I'll be thoroughly entertained。One of my favorite moments when reading Daniel Silva's books is reading his author's notes at the end。 Not only does it give us some background from his research for the book, but also his mindset while writing it。 The Cellist brings back our hero, Gabriel Allon, who now is the head of the Israeli Intelligence Service, to investigate the assassination by poisoning of one of his closest friends, a man who saved his and his wife's lives years ago in Russia。Through Gabriel's investigation, The Cellist gives you a crash course on Russia's money laundering, the Kleptocracy, and the Russian mafia mentality。 It covers the manipulation of the American elections and social media campaigns leading up to the disgraceful attack on our Capitol, on January 6th 2021。For fans of Daniel Silva and Gabriel Allon, this book will be a joy, revisiting old friends and some of the places we've been with Gabriel before; once again confirming Daniel is a master in his craft。To new readers, it’s a great adventure! It’s a privilege to enter the mind of Daniel Silva。 His vast knowledge of world history and geopolitics has garnished him with the nickname “Prophet”。 But most of all, you will have the pleasure and fun of entering the world of Gabriel Allon, art restorer turned Mossad agent, and all his friends。 And enemies。 。。。more

Daniel Silva’s new book, The Cellist, is yet another fine work by one of the the masters of international spy novels。 This book has all the well-researched world affairs background, intertwined with bad guys versus good guys heart pounding action that we’ve come to expect from Daniel Silva。 This, and the previous Allon novel, The Order, also show us the heart and mind of the author - what most concerns him about what’s happening in the world。 The Order was about the rise of anti-Semitism, and Th Daniel Silva’s new book, The Cellist, is yet another fine work by one of the the masters of international spy novels。 This book has all the well-researched world affairs background, intertwined with bad guys versus good guys heart pounding action that we’ve come to expect from Daniel Silva。 This, and the previous Allon novel, The Order, also show us the heart and mind of the author - what most concerns him about what’s happening in the world。 The Order was about the rise of anti-Semitism, and The Cellist about Russia’s campaign to undermine and defeat democracy in Western Europe and the United States from within by spreading misinformation, conspiracy theories, and encouraging extremists to take up arms。 First, I’d like to say that this is a great story。 Like all the Gabriel Allon books, I had to keep reading and didn’t want to stop。 A young German banker at a very dirty bank in Switzerland becomes aware of a major Russian money laundering operation at her bank。 The beneficiaries of this operation are the Russian President and his inner circle。 She decides that this must be stopped。 Her actions to do so start a chain of events that leads to the end of the illegal operation, but with dire consequences for her, and for Gabriel Allon。One thing I like about all Daniel Silva’s books is what I call the after-story。 There’s a point where he could end the book, but he always gives us more。 In this book, what happens to Gabriel in that “more” mirrors the peril facing democracy today。 It is under attack and could be lost if we’re not willing to fight for it。Needless to say, the book is impeccably researched, as all Mr。 Silva’s books are。 I like to read the Author’s note at the end of the book to view his various sources。In summary, I would say this is a well-written and compelling story with a real world message of alarm that should make all of us think very hard about our way of life, who the real enemy is, and what we must do to defend what is ours。I was given an advance copy of this book in the hope that I would provide an honest review, and so I did! 。。。more

Gabriel Allon is leaving the Office in a year and a half。 That is not a spoiler, if you’ve been reading Daniel Silva’s books you know this。 He’s earned the right to his happy ending; to live out the rest of his life with his children and his beautiful and extremely smart wife doing exactly what makes him happy which is restoring art and people。 Now that that’s out of the way onto the housekeeping。 Yes, I received an ARC (Advance Reader’s Copy) which means I’ll read, and it be completely honest。 Gabriel Allon is leaving the Office in a year and a half。 That is not a spoiler, if you’ve been reading Daniel Silva’s books you know this。 He’s earned the right to his happy ending; to live out the rest of his life with his children and his beautiful and extremely smart wife doing exactly what makes him happy which is restoring art and people。 Now that that’s out of the way onto the housekeeping。 Yes, I received an ARC (Advance Reader’s Copy) which means I’ll read, and it be completely honest。 If I don’t like it, if in any way I am disappointed I’m free to say that。 In all honesty, that has never happened although I do have several all-time favorites。 When I started reading The Cellist, I was happily meeting old friends from The Office and smiling every time one of them appeared especially David Bull。 It was as if a breeze of fresh air blew into my home。 Layer by layer like a painter restoring an art treasure or page by page like an author who is master of his craft a spell was being woven。 There was the sly, dry humor and the familiar repletion of phrases。 Just ask me what someone important was wearing; I can repeat verbatim and ‘the waiting, always the waiting’。 Then around page 90 came a stab of anxiety into my ribcage which really didn’t abate until the last chapter。 I could barely breathe but because I was tired, I had to sleep so this reading took two days。 The Cellist brings Gabriel and The Office back to an old enemy one who is one of the few who tried to kill his wife and still lives one whose goal is to destroy the West from within by any means but especially money and delight in it while he’s amassing huge amounts of money and power。 This would be the leader of Russia of course。 Gabriel is drawn into this by an old friend who owns an art gallery in London after another old friend who saved his life and his wife’s is killed by the Russian leader’s minions and by using his alliances with the UK, France, Switzerland he begins to pull the threads of the deception and the murder together into an unsettling picture not just of corruption but of a plan to bring down the United States from within。 Mr。 Big as he’s referred to in this book uses a Russian think tank to question democracy and feed false information into the ears of Tucker Carlson and others like him who wouldn’t listen to any other kind of information for their own nefarious reasons。 The most important part of this story takes place in The United States at the worst time in our history leading up to January 6, 2021。 To see exactly how the Russian despot could play the long game and use the former president, his weaknesses and foibles and innate corruption to try to overthrow our Democracy from within which has always been his plan。 To use someone who would turn a blind eye either due to his own prejudices or weaknesses or lack of education or worse yet a fear of something so vile that would be leaked that he willingly spouted the rhetoric that he was the only true patriot that could save this country to a group of people who would willingly believe this all the while enabling a leader who would turn the US into his own version of Stalin’s gulags。 This was a story that had to be told。 It was important enough to be told in the context of fiction so people would be educated while being entertained。 It could be labeled historical fiction because there’s enough truth in this book to be so classified。 He used actual events which he wove into this story so much so that it’s difficult sometimes to see where the truth ends, and fiction begins。 We were lucky to have had him and his vast experience of political gamesmanship and treachery to write this book right now! It ends, as they all do, with humor and matchmaking。 So, it ends with a smile and hope。 。。。more

A phenomenal spy thriller to say the least。 However, for the moment that's all I can say as I'm going to be reviewing this one for Mystery Scene magazine。 But you should definitely go out and buy this when it hits store shelves on July 13th。 A phenomenal spy thriller to say the least。 However, for the moment that's all I can say as I'm going to be reviewing this one for Mystery Scene magazine。 But you should definitely go out and buy this when it hits store shelves on July 13th。 。。。more
